The Laser Interferometry & Applications (ILA) group si part of the National Institute for Laser, Plasma and Radiation Physics (INFLPR), Laser Department. It was established in 1982 to enable research in a major field in physics: optics and development of interferometry applications. Among the research preocupations within the group, at this time, we recall: specular and speckle interference, holography, diffractive optics, adaptive optics, scatterometry, measurement of length and shape - at visible wavelengths. More recently, we also extended our applications (e.g. imaging and spectroscopy) at THz frequencies.
This is a phenomenon in which an interference pattern is created by the reflection of light between a spherical and an adjacent flat surface.
When collimated and coherent light is used, such fringes are obtained. Generally, interference of two plane waves results in straight fringes.
